SPECTRUM GOLD!!!

This past weekend at Spectrum Live I received the gold award in the book category for my Wooden Bones cover. I still can’t believe it!!! I want to give a big thank you to Arnie and Cathy Fenner for putting on such an amazing event, the judges of Spectrum 19, my friends and family for their endless support, Laurent Linn from Simon and Schuster for giving me an assignment based on my personal work, Scott William Carter for writing such a richly imaginative story, and my former instructors from the Illustration Academy who have supported and encouraged me throughout my career. I especially want to thank Sterling Hundley who has been an amazing mentor and friend. He prompted me to make the big change in my work which lead to this assignment. Thank you so much!

By the way, the convention was really really great. Unlike Comic Con, which is just complete insanity, it was all about the art and artists. While being a large event, it felt intimate and relaxed. The absence of fanboy hordes, which is the norm at conventions, made the art and artists accessible. The lectures were very honest and personal and I’m sure were as important and influential to others as they were to me. I will definitely be going next year! Thanks again to Arnie and Cathy Fenner and all the sponsors for putting on this incredible event!
